Shane Trail
b.1967

Visual artist

Shane's early artistic expression was in the form of exterior street art when in 1990 he collaborated with revered musician, producer and artist DLT to paint an outdoor mural at Ponsonby Intermediate School (For Television New Zealand for an arts programme segment about DLT). The two also collaborated on an exhibition titled ‘Choice’ in June of 1990 at Art space in Auckland and numerous collaborations: Worcester Bar Christchurch, etc.
From 1992 to 1996, Shane painted and exhibited work in numerous shows in London – in prominent venues such as Art space in Spitalfield Markets and ‘The Union’ private Members Club in Soho.

In 2002 Shane completed a post graduate course in Spatial and Interior Design at Auckland AUT which has influenced his most recent artwork and which reflects a more textural and minimalist style. Using found objects and casting objects in resin and plaster, Trail creates minimalistic geometric work.

“My work comprises strong textural pieces that convey a minimalist and unpretentious style. I am interested in building up a language with materials and subject matter that is evolving as I am exploring the possibilities and expressing a message, The work is very tactile & experiential. I tend to prefer using simple colours with the subject matter originating from base geometrical shapes (the square and the circle)?”

Shane’s artworks are in private & corporate collections in the UK, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
