Biography
Miriam Cabello is a multi-award winning artist, curator and educator who has exhibited internationally and nationally. Miriam nurtures a profound interest in social issues and education. Her works predominately address highly charged themes endowed with a particular narrative.
In 1971, her parents fled the impending omnipotence of Chile’s dictatorship. They arrived to Australia with fifty cents, high-hair, aspirations of further education and a longing for avocados. Miriam was a stretch over four. Encouraged to be creative, by her early teens she discovered a symbiotic relationship with art and forged a vision to embrace art, design and business.
Miriam began her art studies by amalgamating a double major: painting and design, a multifaceted approach during a time of division at Sydney College of the Arts – that severed the art school from design. This lead to undertaking a postgraduate degree of design at the Tower (UTS). The growth of the graphic design business, which she founded and developed with her brother Victor Cabello, was acknowledged at the 2002 Australian Micro Business Awards (Winner: NSW Creative Arts Category). Over time Miriam was able to spend more time with her true companion, oil painting. Since 2005 she has dedicated herself fulltime to her passion for art and education and has been awarded and recognized for her efforts.
In 2010 Miriam completed the Golden Artist Educators Program with Patti Brady and returned from studying in New York with renowned artist Daniel E. Greene. This was an intensive 3-week workshop dedicated to painting the figure from life and learning a comprehensive flesh palette derived from the Old Masters.
To celebrate the 400th Anniversary of Caravaggio's Death (1610-2010), Miriam launched Atelier Master School. This specialised and exceptionally structured school offers innovative workshops and private instruction dedicated to the Old Masters’ Techniques.
Miriam Cabello is clearly committed to research and development. Partnering with conservators to analyse and experiment with the latest scientific developments in oil painting.
