Monika Feuerstein

Sculptor

In the beginning, there was the Hand.
The Hand had many tasks.
To love, to nurture, to work and to create.

My works focus on the environment, the evolution of man and on man’s impact on our planet. They are meant to be humorous with a twist, to engage the viewer and make them think.

The “Hand’ was inspired visiting the court yard, Palazzo Dei Conservation in the Musei Capitolini museum in Rome. Part of the remains of the colossal figure of Constantine the Great was an 8.5 foot tall head, one of his feet, a bulging bicep and this massive hand, all carved from white marble. The figure was seated and rose to a height of 30 feet. It was carved between AD 315 and 330. The dressed parts of the body were made of wood covered in gilded bronze, but they have been lost over time.
