I am interested in the framed perspective of photographic reality and how easily we surrender to that reality. I am interested in the way we continue to believe in the photographic image whilst being only too aware that what we see is what we choose to see plus our memory and our expectation. This contradiction, together with a fascination for the deforming properties of defocus and the spatial imprecision of our peripheral vision, provide the content for my recent photographs which attempt to illustrate the blatant two dimensionality of the photographic image. Although the subject matter of my photographs is the urban environment and therefore documentary in nature, it is on the very surface of the paper that I believe another photographic truth exists.

Biography
I began experimenting with photography and mixed media during my final year at secondary school while teaching myself to print both B&W and colour. These endeavours led to an exhibition of my photographs and photographic constructions at the Horsham Regional Art Gallery.
The staging of this exhibition fostered a fascination with art history, particularly early 20th century art history. The Dada, Bauhaus and Russian Constructivists manifestos also led to a continuing interest in design and typography. In the late 1980’s I attended Photography Studies College in Melbourne with my partner Jill Maclean. The photographic works that resulted from our collaboration are now in private collections in Melbourne and the art collection of Griffith University in Queensland.
More recently, I have been involved in the design and construction of urban landscaping projects using photography to help clients better visualize their ideas. In early 2010 I held an exhibition of my photographic work at 69 Smith Street Gallery in Melbourne. In August 2011 I had my photographic work reviewed by Dianna Gold and Naomi Cass and subsequently was one of four finalists in the BIFB’11 portfolio review.
Earlier this year, February 2012, I was included in a group show at Edmund Pearce Gallery, Melbourne
I continue to research the science of visual perception and the link to the practice
of photography.
