Kylie Martin
Kylie Martin’s imaginative paintings emerge from her deep fascination for story, symbols and people. Her striking painterly imagery captures her delight in colour as though she is literally "playing in paint". Symbolic, often naïve, her work is imbued with some striking and intense undertones, as reflected in nature and in lived human experience.
An emerging artist, Martin creates quirky abstract portraits and expansive "dancing" paintings, which are birthed directly from her authentic experience of being in the world. Her lush pallette and whimsical style enables these rich inner-landscape to be made visible, while her enduring love for typography often reveals a constant thread: reaffirming a sense of "self-at-play" in her art. Such a fusion of exquisite, textural and boldly expressive qualities, elicits a sense of curiousity in the viewer. Her most recent "storybook" work, weaves intimate child-like compositions together creating unfolding and changing narratives, reminiscent of childhood games.
Martin grew up in rural NSW and has worked for many years alongside people as a Creative Arts Therapist, she fills journals in her daily life with imagery and prose to inform and enrich her work, as she grapples with personal meaning in her art.
