Frank Malerba b.1950
Frank Malberba is one of the most avant-garde and assured artists working in Australia today and having had a significant profile for some time, his work has become highly collectible. At Sotheby’s and Christie’s (on the secondary market) Malberba’s art sells in line or in excess of its retail price; as collectors know, only a handful of living artist achieve this.
Frank Malerba’s signature is a combination of pop realism, abstract and the sublime. There is an underlying narrative running though his work and his composition retains certain visual devices of pop art and advertising aimed at maximum effect but without constraint. His paintings raise the issue of truth and appearances; vivid contouring, amplified by dimensional layering, Malerba addresses the relationship between perception, representation and image.
