Frank Malerba    b.1950

Frank Malberba is one of the most avant-garde and assured artists working in Australia today, and having had a significant profile for some time, his work is highly collectable in the secondary art market. At Sotheby’s and Christie’s, Malberba’s art sells in line, or in excess of its retail price, and as collectors would know, only a handful of living artist achieve this.

Frank Malerba’s signature is a combination of pop realism, abstraction and the sublime. There is an underlying narrative running though his work, and his composition retains certain visual devices of pop art and advertising, aimed at maximum effect but without constraint. His paintings raise the issue of truth and appearances; vivid contouring, amplified by dimensional layering; Malerba addresses the relationship between perception, representation and image.

Malerba has a vigourous and unique drawing style; using senual flowing lines to depict the female form, and combining text to create a dynamic effect.
