Graduated from Swinburne Institute of Technology (Melbourne) with a
Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design. Drew spent several years art directing in Advertising agencies developing a thick skin and ability to panic. He then turned to freelance illustration specialising in editorial.
The past fifteen years has been spent creating images for advertising,
publishing and design industries. These works have been varied, however
with a common playfulness and graphic simplicity.
Clients have ranged from The Law Society of NSW to Australian Playboy.
To see the world through the eyes of Drew Aitken is to have humor and chaos confront us at every turn. Aitkens characters struggle, succeed and fearlessly explore the world; they chase the dream, and are oblivious to the obstacles that stand in their way. All that is in front of them is there to seize and savor.
‘If only people approached life in the same way; with blind determination, sheer courage and a sense of humor. Lessons in life cannot be taught and life is messy, it’s a roller coaster and if it wasn’t we would find it dull.’
Finding their way through the money maze, scaling the tallest building for love, dodging bullets on the stock exchange, a quick escape with a brief case of laundered loot, are day to day occurrences.
