Biography: Mike Adey Born:1972
From Mambo to Wine...
I starting dreaming of painting a long time ago while I was at university in South Australia. Highly influenced by Mambo and the Spanish graphic designer, Mariscal I carried on with my studies and graduated with my Bachelor of Design (Illustration Design) from the University of South Australia in 1998.
After graduating, all these ideas for paintings were still in my head, but life intervened. I freelanced as a Illustrator for a while. Later my partner and I moved from our home town of Adelaide to the big smoke of Melbourne. Melbourne has a feel of wonder about it. I’ve been here since...about 8 years now and counting. Melbourne was what I was looking for - cutting edge art and great design. This comes out in my paintings that I feel are more like large designed Illustration pieces.
I started painting properly in 2005 and soon after I was selling them at my local plant nursery/gallery in Newport in 2006. My style kept on changing and people seem to like them more and more . With themes of wine and food to Australian native flowers
being the most popular.
I had my first solo exhibition in March 2007 which was part of the Hobsons Bay City Council: Arts in Place Places. This was huge success for myself and the girls at Hobsons Bay Nursery/Gallery who held the exhibition for me.
My second exhibition in November 2007 at Cafe No.5 in East Brunswick was another successful exhibition with half of my paintings sold. I had two commissioned paintings as a direct result of this exhibition and people emailing me for information of what’s in stock.
I had my third exhibition in March 2008, again part of the Hobsons Bay City Council: Arts in Place Places 2008, at Icebergs Cafe and Bar in Williamstown. I also have a permanent exhibition of paintings at Hobsons Bay Nursery/Gallery.
