Jason Benjamin    b.1971

Born in Melbourne in 1971, Jason Benjamin is considered one of the most successful artists of his generation.

He describes his work method as ‘a bid to capture the moment’. The works are an evocation of memories; although they are photographic in appearance, they are essentially a photograph of the mind. His flowers are full-blown and velvety, his sunsets stage a celestial drama, and his portraits brim with emotional intensity. Although the sumptuousness of his paintings draws us to them, their mysterious titles hold us at arm’s length, obliquely hinting at possible meanings.

The passion that animates Benjamin’s exploration of the trope of beauty, with its painterly extravagance and richness of palette, is infectious
